The first step in getting Lip Fillers in Birmingham or Detroit, MI is to contact Skin Boutique and schedule your consultation. During this one-on-one appointment with one of our cosmetic injectors, you will be able to address all of your aesthetic desires, ask any questions and address concerns about the treatment, and have your lips evaluated. You will also need to answer some questions regarding your medical history, but this is to prevent any unnecessary side effects during your treatment or recovery. Finally, your personalized treatment plan will be made and if you agree with it, you can have your Lip Filler treatment immediately after. When you’re ready for your Lip Filler treatment, you will first make yourself comfortable in one of our reclining chairs. Next, the cosmetic injector will apply a topical anesthetic to your lips to prevent any pain, as well as make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Then using a very thin needle, the Injector will inject the lip filler into strategic locations on your lips. Normally, these points can include the edges of your lips (vermillion border), the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow), and the corners of your mouth, but it will depend on what is discussed during your consultation.
Once complete, the injector will gently massage your lips to help them absorb the filler and you will be given an ice pack to apply to your lips to minimize swelling and bruising.
After you have been released, you will be able to return to your normal routine. You may experience some swollen, sensitive, or bruised lips during the first 24 – 72 hours, but it can take up to a week to subside. You can treat any pain or discomfort with over-the-counter pain medication and even an ice pack to reduce inflammation, however, it should be kept at 10 minutes at a time. Do not purse your lips, which means no straws or kissing, and be careful when brushing your teeth. We encourage you to drink plenty of water during this time because healthy skin comes from staying hydrated. Finally, avoid exercising or strenuous activities for at least 24 hours to avoid additional bruising or accidental filler migration.
During your recovery, please avoid wearing lipstick, lip balm, or any other products for the first 24 hours.
